Labiaplasty at Mode

What is Labiaplasty

Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure to reduce or increase the size of the labia, which are the folds of skin around your vaginal opening. The labia has two folds of skin;

1. Labia majora – these are the larger fleshy folds that protect external genitals organs, and

2. Labia minora – these are the smaller skin folds that protect the opening of your urethra and vagina.

People usually get this procedure to reduce physical discomfort or as part of gender-affirming surgery. Sometimes, you might want it for cosmetic reasons, but there’s a wide range of normal labia. Everyone’s labia are unique and there’s no ideal or “normal” way for them to look.

Reasons for Labiaplasty

Labiaplasty is suitable for women who want to

  • Improve the external appearance of their genitalia,
  • Wear tight clothes or swimwear without seeing the outline of the labia majora, or
  • Minimise discomfort during sexual intercourse.

Benefits of Labiaplasty

The most common benefits of labiaplasty are

  • Increased sexual pleasure – reduces the chance of the vaginal lips getting caught, stretched or otherwise interfering with sexual intercourse. Pleasure may also be made more accessible by reducing excess skin around the clitoral hood.
  • Greater comfort while exercising – a large or uneven labia can interfere with running, cycling and other physical activities. Exposed tissue can get chaffed, pinched, pulled and twisted.
  • Improved vaginal hygiene – reduced tissue reduces the risk of hygiene issues.

Recovery from labiaplasty surgery varies from person to person, however below is a general outline of the recovery timeline.
Most importantly, Dr Aggarwal and the team at Mode Plastic Surgery will always be on hand to answer any questions or concerns before or after your surgery.

Week 1:

  • For the first 48 hours keep the wound dry, apply ointment 3 times a day for the first week.
  • Post surgery review with Dr Aggarwal after the first week

Weeks 2-3:

  • You may resume activities such as swimming, provided the wound has completely healed, and given go ahead by Dr Aggarwal.
  • Start undertaking scar management – massage and silicone to allow the scar to dissipate.

Weeks 6-8:

  • You may resume sexual activity.
  • Saddle seating, bike riding, horse riding and similar activities may be resumed after 6-8 weeks

It’s important to note that these are general guidelines, and individual experiences may vary. Always follow your surgeon’s post-operative instructions and attend all scheduled follow-up appointments for the best outcome.
