At Mode Plastic Surgery we will always be upfront with our costs, and will always aim to keep our costs reasonable.
- A consultation for cosmetic procedures or for breast reconstruction costs $350. Fees for these procedures are collected at the time of booking and are payable via credit card over the phone, or via direct bank transfer.
- A consultation for reconstructive procedures such as skin cancer costs $295 (or $240 for Pensioners)
- A follow up appointment costs $140 for cosmetic procedures, and $120 for reconstructive procedures.
- You will be entitled for a Medicare rebate of $73 for an initial consultation, and a rebate of $37 for a follow-up consultation if you have a referral.
- In general this is not possible as quote for surgery will depend on the individual treatment plan for surgery, time expected for the procedure, and any rebates available (this depends on if the procedure is reconstructive or cosmetic, and on the level of cover).
- General price ranges for most procedures are available on this site under ‘Procedures’ (and click on the procedure you are most interested in).
- For a full personalised quote you should book for a consultation with Dr Aggarwal as every patient has different needs – we often find that patients who come in looking for a particular procedure could actually get the results they are looking for with a cheaper alternative treatment or may not be suitable at all for that procedure, making the cost of the consultation well worth it.
- We always endeavour at Mode, to keep our fees competitive but costs should be just one aspect of your decision to undergo cosmetic surgery. (Click here to read things to consider when undergoing cosmetic surgery). You should also consider– the surgeon’s qualifications, experience and your comfort with him during the process.
- While we aim to keep our prices reasonable, we consider that your level of surgical, pre- and post-operative care, and standard of our other services to be well worth your money.
- You should also remember that different providers have different qualifications. Only accredited Plastic Surgeons like Dr Aggarwal have completed the extended surgical training, passed the rigorous examinations required to obtain that title and undergone competitive fellowship training.
- Click here to read more about differences between Plastic and cosmetic surgeons.
- Unfortunately for many years reimbursements offered by Medicare (and Health Funds) have either been frozen or risen minimally (lagging behind the rate of inflation). They have therefore not kept up with the increase in practice costs that many doctors including surgeons face.
- The fees we charge are in line with those recommended by the peak association of doctors – the AMA.
- As a result there is a gap between the reimbursement offered by Medicare and health funds, and the fees for surgical and anaesthetic fees.
- At Mode Plastic Surgery, we will offer you a written quote and we encourage you to check with Medicare and your health fund to confirm your specific rebate entitlement.
- For Pensioners having reconstructive procedures, we offer a ‘known gap’ service (see below) to control the out of pocket costs.
- Patients having reconstructive procedures who are uninsured or who cannot pay our standard fees have the option of electing to be a public patient at one of the public hospitals where Dr Aggarwal operates. (See what does it mean to be a public patient?)
- Click here to see the AMA explanation of out of pocket fees: https://ama.com.au/article/ama-gaps-poster
- At MODE, our fees are in line with those recommended by the AMA – the peak association of doctors in NSW.
- In general we do not offer procedures with a known gap service.
- For pensioners (with a full health care card) with skin cancer, we do offer a known gap service.
- Unfortunately we are unable to “bulk bill” or “no gap”.
- Unfortunately for many years reimbursements offered by Medicare (and Health Funds) have either been frozen or risen minimally (lagging behind the rate of inflation). They have therefore not kept up with the increase in practice costs that many doctors including surgeons face.
- Patients who are uninsured or unable to pay the gap or our standard fees have the option of electing to be a public patient at one of the public hospitals where Dr Aggarwal operates. (See what does it mean to be a public patient?)
- As a public hospital patient you have the option of being treated wholly under Medicare without incurring out of pocket costs
- Dr Aggarwal operates at two large Sydney public hospitals – Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Prince of Wales/Royal Hospital for Women
- Please note that only reconstructive procedures can be performed at public hospitals. Cosmetic procedures cannot be performed at public hospitals.
- Public hospital operating time carries a waiting period due to excess demand, which for elective surgery can vary from 30 to 90 days for skin cancer surgery, to 12 months for other elective reconstructive surgery.
- Surgery will generally be performed by plastic surgery registrars who are training to be plastic surgeons, under the supervision of Dr Aggarwal.
- Overall your standard of care will still be very good, offering a good alternative to private health care without incurring costs.
- Please note that all patients seen in our rooms pre or post operatively will be charged our standard initial and follow up consult fees.
- All surgical procedures carry 3 categories of costs – surgeon fees, anaesthetist fees and hospital fees (composed of theatre and bed fees).
- The anaesthetic fee is time dependent, while the hospital fee may vary depending on which hospital you choose to have your surgery performed at.
- For cosmetic procedures that carry no Medicare and health fund rebates, the total fee will be the addition of the above three categories.
- For reconstructive procedures or surgeries with item numbers a Medicare and health fund rebate will apply to the surgeon and anaesthetist fees (claimable after the procedure), and the hospital fees will generally be covered by the health fund significantly reducing the out of pocket expenses.
- We will prepare a detailed invoice which will explain and itemise all the costs that are associated with your procedure.
- For cosmetic procedures, please note that there is a deposit of 30% of the surgical fee due when you book in your procedure which becomes non-refundable if the surgery is rescheduled or cancelled within 1 month of the surgery date
- Note that all cosmetic surgery operations must be paid in full 2 weeks prior to the scheduled procedure. If payment is not received by the due date, the operation will be cancelled.
- Mode Plastic Surgery does not offer payment plans as it is illegal for us to even suggest companies that can assist! But there are a number of options that patients have to assist with funding medical procedures. Some of our patients have funded their surgery through medical payment companies that can be found on the internet (just Google general terms such as ‘Australian medical financing’).
- We are not affiliated or endorse any particular financing company.
- Other patients have approached their existing banks for redraws or personal loans or used a low-interest credit card to help fund their procedure.
- Cosmetic surgery carries no rebates from Medicare or health funds.
- Reconstructive procedures and some cosmetic procedures are associated with Medicare Item numbers – this means that a rebate may be possible for surgeon/anaesthetist fees, and coverage of hospital fees.
- The level of coverage varies on the type of procedure, level of cover you have, your waiting periods and the exclusions of your health fund policy.
- We encourage patients to contact their health funds with the item numbers listed in your quote to determine their specific rebate entitlement (if any).
- Due to privacy laws, Mode Plastic Surgery cannot make these enquiries on your behalf so any estimate of health fund rebates we provide are indicative only and must be confirmed by the patient before the procedure to avoid potentially significant unexpected costs.
- We do not accept responsibility for non-coverage of procedures with respect to doctor fees or hospital fees by health funds and Medicare.
- You will be provided with a receipt for Medicare and health fund claims
- You will be able to take this to Medicare (and then your health fund for a hospital procedure) for a rebate if the procedure has a Medicare item number.
- Purely cosmetic procedures (such as anti-wrinkle injections, breast augmentations or facelift) will not attract a Medicare rebate.
- Health funds will not offer a rebate for in-rooms procedures.
