Hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating, is a condition that can cause significant discomfort. Individuals affected by hyperhidrosis may experience increased sweating in areas such as the underarms, hands, feet, or face, which can impact daily activities and confidence. Treatment options can be discussed with a qualified health professional to determine the most suitable approach for managing this condition.
Excessive sweating treatments involve injections that temporarily reduce the activity of sweat glands by blocking the communication between nerves and sweat glands. During your consultation, a qualified health professional will assess areas of concern to determine the best approach for treatment. In some cases, additional testing may be performed to identify specific areas.
The procedure is generally well-tolerated, with topical anaesthesia used to enhance comfort. Treatment durations and costs can vary, with options available to address specific needs. These treatments may provide relief from excessive sweating for a period of 8 to 18 months, and the suitability for treatment will be discussed with a healthcare professional during your consultation.
Individual results can vary, and a comprehensive consultation is essential to assess your needs, suitability, and expected outcomes before proceeding with any treatment.
In the treatment of excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), injections are used to target the nerves involved in sweat production. These injections can be applied to specific areas, such as the armpits, palms, or soles of the feet, based on individual needs. Treatment duration may vary, and results typically last up to several months. For armpit treatments, the procedure can be performed in the clinic with local anaesthesia. For treatment in other areas, such as the hands or feet, a more extensive approach may be needed. A starch-iodine test may be used prior to the procedure to help identify areas of concern. Your suitability for treatment will be assessed by a qualified practitioner during a consultation.
An initial consultation with our practice nurse will assess your facial concerns and discuss potential treatment options, considering the overall aging process. A full medical history will be reviewed to ensure the treatment is suitable for you. In some cases, other alternatives may be recommended, particularly if there are underlying conditions that may affect the treatment.
The injections will be performed by our practice nurse under the supervision of Dr. Aggarwal. The procedure is typically carried out on the same day, unless there are specific factors such as:
The procedure is conducted in a private treatment room at our Gordon practice. Clinical photographs may be taken to assess muscle strength, wrinkles, and skin quality before treatment. Injections are performed using a fine needle for your comfort.
After the treatment, you can return to your usual activities immediately. Some mild bruising or discomfort may occur. It is recommended to apply an ice pack to the treated area to reduce swelling. Please avoid massaging the treated area, as this could cause the product to spread to unintended areas. Aftercare instructions will be provided to ensure proper care and results.
A follow-up appointment will be scheduled to assess the outcome of the treatment.
The initial consultation and treatment typically take around 1 hour. This includes the assessment, discussion of your concerns, and the procedure itself.
Initial effects may be noticed within 2-3 days, with full results taking up to 3 weeks. The duration of results typically lasts between 3 to 4 months. This can vary depending on the area treated, the individual’s response, and whether maintenance treatments are required.
A follow-up consultation is generally recommended at the 2-week mark to assess the effectiveness and, if needed, adjust the treatment. Ongoing assessments may be recommended every 3-4 months for continued management.
In the treatment of hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), injections are administered to temporarily block the nerve signals to the sweat glands. This treatment is commonly used for areas such as the armpits, palms, and soles of the feet.
The effects typically last for an average of 6 to 7 months, and patients may require follow-up treatments to maintain results.
For armpit treatments, local anaesthetic cream is used, making the procedure more comfortable. For hands or feet, a general anaesthetic may be required, as the procedure is performed as a day-only procedure.
In some cases, a starch iodine test may be conducted prior to treatment to accurately identify the areas most affected by sweating, helping to ensure the treatment targets the right areas.
