Hydrafacial
HydraFacial is fast becoming one of our favorite procedures in our medical spa. It has taken the place of some of our other facial treatments, like microdermabrasion and basic facials, because of the customisation that can be incorporated into the service and it just being more effective across the board due to the patented vacuum and tips. However, one of the coolest things about a HydraFacial is the first step of the treatment, which is a vacuum-assisted lymphatic drainage massage.
What is the lymphatic system?
The lymphatic system is one of your body’s ways of getting rid of toxins and waste that we accumulate. It is comprised of a network of different lymph nodes and organs (like the thymus and spleen, just to name a couple) that are connected by lymph vessels. The primary function of this system is to rid the body of “lymph,” a colorless fluid containing white blood cells. This process can be slowed down by a multitude of different factors like age, disease, injury, and a host of other factors causing lymph to accumulate in different parts of the body. We need to remove this lymph from our body, as it is vital to achieving better health. Think of it like flushing the garbage disposal and getting rid of all those toxins. If you have ever had a regular facial, you will notice that most aestheticians will do a certain kind of massage where they move the lymph to the sides of your face, then down the face, and then down the neck, where your body can excrete it from there. The whole process is really cool and it plays a vital role in the health of your skin. However, a HydraFacial lymphatic drainage massage is different.
How does Hydrafacial use lymphatic massage?
HydraFacial had developed a method for incorporating suction into the massage. So not only are you getting the physical movement of lymphatic drainage massage, you are getting a secondary benefit, which is the suction from the HydraFacial machine to move more lymph out of your face. If you really think about it, if you skip what is going on underneath the surface of the skin, then you really aren’t getting all the benefits of a facial.
If you are interested in a HydraFacial treatment or have any further questions, don’t hesitate to call us or send us a message online.
